Week 1 - Anchorage, Alaska

Guess the Weather - Orientation & Week 1:

The link to Guess the Weather Central: www.djsterf.com/leagues/gwstandings.html

This page will be very handy to you in the future, seeing that you guess the weather from pages that stem from that root page.  To guess week 1's weather, go to the WEEK 1 link ( ../leagues/week1.html ) in the standings table and fill out all the info required (comments or questions are optional).  Here are some of the basic rules...

     The REGULAR SEASON

The regular season will last 5 weeks.

Each week you will have to guess the HIGH and LOW temperatures for selected cities, in FAHRENHEIT DEGREES!  The closer you come to the actual weather, the better your score!  A perfect day is worth 20 points, and each degree off the actual is 2 points off.

YOU MAY look at any forecasts for the city or any weather maps...they may help you gauge how the weather trends have been.

Each week's guess is due on a THURSDAY, by 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time, 11 days before the Monday you'll guess the weather for.

EACH WEEK MISSED COUNTS AS IF YOU GUESSED 0 FOR THE HIGH AND LOW TEMPERATURES...which can look rather nasty on the standings!

You may guess ahead if you will be out a week...or if you just want to guess ahead!  Just make sure you try to get to the PLAYOFFS!!!

     THE PLAYOFFS

The top 50% of the league will move on to the playoffs.  In the case that the number of players is odd, for example, 15, the top 8 would go on (as opposed to 7.5...).

The playoffs will last 3 weeks, consisting of cities around the world with varying climates.  Expect the impossible!

After each week, the people with the bottom third of the scores will be eliminated, until the final week, where only 2 will remain to compete for the GUESS THE WEATHER LEAGUE TROPHY!

This game gives you a peek into the rugged life of a weatherman, as other leagues in the future will give you peeks into different walks of life...check out the other leagues in the future!

...and keep inviting your friends to play Guess the Weather League...they have until the 22nd to guess the first week's weather.  Registration is at: www.djsterf.com/leagues .

    God bless, fake meteorologists!

BLING BLING...

Mat 16:2   He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, [It will be] fair weather: for the sky is red.
Mat 16:3   And in the morning, [It will be] foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O [ye] hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not [discern] the signs of the times?

Guesses for Week 2 are due THURSDAY, MAY 29 AT 5 PM EST.  Make-up weeks are only done in emergencies and way-in-advance advance vacations.

Scouting reports and player history pages are up now on the site, so check those out.

     Strategies in League Play

     - Advance guess: Make sure you have a guess in for each week to make sure your score doesn't die a gruesome death!

     - Guess conservatively if in the hunt for the playoffs: If not behind, keep consistent and avoid wild guessing.

     - Guess extreme values if you are in trouble in the standings...except if you're Kelly and will be behind about 30 million points (literally)!  It's over!

     - Why not pray before you guess, too.  It's just another excuse to pray.  ;)

Current Number of Playoff Spots: 9

Late registrants can up that total, but remember that it takes 2 new people to make a new spot in the playoffs.  We have unlimited space in this league, so it's still open, but it will definitely be harder to win a week late.

     HAPPY GUESS THE WEATHER-ING!

     God bless, all.

- Sterling
